EVERTON take a commanding 4-1 advantage into the second leg of their Europa League tie against Young Boys on Thursday night. Mark O’Haire (@MarkOHaire) highlights the value.
Everton v Young Boys | Thursday 20.05 | ITV1
Everton showed us both sides of their Jekyll & Hyde season over the past seven days. The Toffees put in an excellent performance in Bern last Thursday night to storm into a 4-1 first leg lead against Young Boys. But Roberto Martinez’s men followed that up with a dreadful display at home to rock bottom Leicester on Sunday.
I certainly didn’t foresee Everton handing out that pasting in Switzerland, choosing to back Young Boys in the draw no bet market. Still, good bets will often lose and bad bets will often win; that’s just the way the industry works and it’s about how you react from losses like last Thursday.
The Toffees win was certainly out of kilter with the majority of their performances this season and so I wouldn’t be rushing to side with the hosts when they return home. Bern certainly haven’t become a poor team overnight and on Sunday they dished out a 4-2 beating at home to Basel to move within five points of the league summit.
In fact, that defeat seven days ago is their only reverse in 11 matches either side of the winter break with Young Boys racking up seven victories during that spell. The Swiss side do look overpriced on Thursday night but I’ll keep things a little more conservative by backing Both Teams To Score at an inflated even-money with Paddy Power.
The last three Young Boys matches have produced 17 goals with Uli Forte’s charges netting in their last 11. Eight of those outings featured BTTS winners and the travellers have also notched in all bar two of their 10 Europa League fixtures this term. Having to chase the tie, we should be treated to an open encounter and hopefully the goals will flow at Goodison.
