DENMARK and Serbia meet in the Euro U21’s on Tuesday. Chris Graham (@chrisgraham79) gives us his best bets.
Denmark U21 v Serbia U21 | Tuesday 19:45 | BT Sport 2
Both these sides had a nightmare Saturday as they lost by a combined score of 7-0 to their opponents. While Denmark’s 3-0 defeat to Germany was sort of acceptable, Serbia’s 4-0 loss to the Czech Republic wasn’t, and you wonder whether they can come back from that.
In their opening matches both sides had positive experiences. Serbia held Germany to a 1-1 draw while the Danes sneaked a 2-1 win over the hosts Czech Republic.
Heading into the final game it’s Denmark that hold all the aces. A draw will be enough for them to qualify as long as the Czech Republic don’t beat Germany (a 9/2 chance), for the Serbs they must win to stay in the tournament, and even if they do and the Czechs draw with Germany they’ll still go out.
It’s a big ask for the Serbs to progress and one that looks beyond them. The Danes deserved all the plaudits that came their way after their 2-1 win over the Czechs and in all honesty there’s no huge shame in losing 3-0 to this German side.
Perhaps the Germans were still finding their feet when they kicked off the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Serbia. The Serbs follow up game was a big embarrassment and the truth probably lies in the middle somewhere.
I’m backing Denmark here as I think they’re a better side. They went unbeaten in qualifying, topping their group and getting past Iceland in the play-offs. Serbia finished second in their group and qualified for the play-offs via goal difference.
This is a big opportunity for Denmark. A win will see them through and I think they can achieve that. They’re 7/5 with Skybet and that’s good enough for me.
