BETTING industry expert Tommy Buckley (@tbuckleythinks) highlights an early bird yankee from Saturday’s domestic football.
Last weekend was a real mixed bag with the highs of Peterborough and Doncaster collecting at nice odds, while the shorter options failed.
The selections backed as singles would have yielded a profit so that’s something positive but the main focus was the Yankee, and so it’s a case of taking that on the chin and moving on to the next battle with the bookmakers.
I must admit, my main focus next weekend will be enjoying the delights of St Leger Day at Doncaster racecourse but I’ll still have an eye on the football.
I think I’ve found some interesting options to consider and I’m again going down the Yankee route with a mix of bet types from different leagues.
Carlisle v Tranmere | Saturday 15th September 2018, 15:00
Fourth-placed Carlisle welcome Tranmere for what should be a fascinating and competitive battle, but one I ultimately believe Carlisle are a decent price to win.
Carlisle have four wins from seven league matches with only one defeat – Tranmere also only have one defeat so far but they’ve drawn four and they have conceded at least once in every away league game so far, and five in three away matches.
Tranmere will test Carlisle but I believe home advantage will be the key, and around the 6/4 (SkyBet) mark, a Carlisle home win appeals as an option worth risking.
Chelsea v Cardiff | Saturday 15th September 2018, 15:00
Cardiff received plenty of plaudits for having a go at Arsenal last time and in scoring their first two goals of the Premier League season they at least showed spirit and pride.
However, that was against an Arsenal defence that looks built to concede goals against anybody and I just don’t see Chelsea in the same light. Going to Stamford Bridge will be a completely different test for the Bluebirds.
Chelsea are by no means watertight at the back but given the style of play that new manager Maurizio Sarri wants to incorporate – controlling possession being the focus, I just don’t see how Cardiff will get enough of the ball to trouble the Blues and I’ll be surprised if the Welsh side get more than a few odd chances.
Chelsea are around 1/5 shots to win the match but clearly those odds are not for your average punter, and to be fair, there is no fun in backing that.
Matches with profiles like this mean the betting value lies elsewhere and in this case Chelsea to win to nil around 4/5 (SkyBet) looks the bet – the Blues winning 2-0 or 3-0 looks entirely possible.
Bristol City v Sheffield United | Saturday 15th September 2018, 15:00
I’m not personally connected to either club but for me Bristol City versus Sheffield United looks to be the most interesting and potentially entertaining fixture in the Championship next weekend.
Bristol City sit sixth with their six league matches producing 17 goals, whilst Sheffield United sit third and their six league matches have produced 20 goals.
All six of Sheffield United’s matches have produced Over 2.5 Goals this term and they are full of confidence with three straight wins and nine goals scored.
Bristol City can match that record of winning their three Championship outings, with an excellent win at Swansea, along with a 4-1 demolition of Blackburn at home in their last match season highlights.
I’ll be massively surprised if goals don’t flow in this match – it should be open with plenty of chances for either side. It has the feel of a 2-1/3-1/2-2 type game and for me Over 2.5 Goals at 5/6 (SkyBet) looks very good – I’d expect that to shorten and go off around 8/11.
MK Dons v Forest Green | Saturday 15th September 2018, 15:00
This looks a cracking League Two fixture with sixth-place MK Dons taking on ninth-placed Forest Green with both so far unbeaten.
The Dons have W3-D3-L0 thus far, while, Forest Green have W2-D5-L0 in the book, so this looks destined to be a competitive battle, but one where I think home advantage will be the defining difference.
Forest Green will go to Milton Keynes with confidence given their away results – clearly five draws means they won’t be easy to beat but MK are usually strong at home and don’t concede too many.
A tight MK Dons win looks the call and priced around 19/20 (SkyBet), the home win looks the bet.
What is Yankee?
The yankee is a four-selection wager consisting of 11 bets: six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold accumulator.
This is a full cover bet where each selection appears in three doubles, three trebles and the four-fold in order to maximise winnings.
