Doncaster v Plymouth: Skinny Doncaster worth opposing here

GEORGE Elek (@georgeelek) gives us his thoughts on Sunday’s game between Doncaster and Plymouth

Doncaster v Plymouth | Sunday 14:45 | Sky Sports 1

Favourite backers should approach this tie with caution, as League Two leaders Doncaster look on the short side in their clash with Plymouth Argyle on Sunday.

The two clubs are sitting pretty in the top spots of the table, on 78 and 72 points respectively, and seven points clear of third placed Portsmouth.

Darren Ferguson and Derek Adams have built strong squads who, barring a disastrous run-in will be playing League One football next season.

League Two title at stake

This therefore represents the last chance for Plymouth to challenge their hosts for the League Two title, with anything other than three points leaving them likely having to settle for second.

On first glance Doncaster look to be a team on the ascendency. They have won four of their last five games, and have been beaten just once since the 10th December. It would take a brave man to oppose them, but they are short enough around the 3/4 mark.

The WDWWW run that they are on is somewhat flattering, with three of the four wins coming against Notts County (20th ), Cheltenham (22nd ) and Leyton Orient (24th ).

Keepmoat form a concern

Recently they have been unable to put Morecambe, Luton and Accrington away at home, so there is enough cause for some concern about their form at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Plymouth, on the other hand, have been very inconsistent of late. Home defeats to Leyton Orient, Notts County and Blackpool indicate Adams’ men are struggling to find comforts at Home Park.

They have, however, lost just one of their last seven games on their travels in League Two, finding the net in all of them. In Graham Carey they have arguably the most talented player in the league who, with three goals in his last five games, is regaining his early season form.

Doncaster have failed to find the net at home just once this season, in an anomalous home stalemate with Port Vale, so goals seem to be the way to go here. Both teams are playing in their desired environments, with Argyle stronger on their travels, and BTTS  at 5/6 with Stan James is a confident selection.

With Doncaster struggling to put the division’s best clubs to the sword when hosting, and therefore looking a little on the short side, it is also worth backing the score draw at 4/1 with BetVictor. This bet would also have produced a winner in three of Plymouth’s last four away games.
