It’s hard to mention Denmark and the European Championships without referencing their fairytale journey to 1992 glory but pitted in what’s officially, the toughest group in world football. All four sides feature in FIFA’s top 10 rankings but the Danes continuity and familiarity could be crucial while the side thrives on the role of underdog.
Trends
- Scored in every one of their qualifying games and have found the net in 17 of their last 19 internationals.
- Their qualifying goals were almost equally spread – eight of 15 came in the first half and seven in the second.
- Nicklas Bendtner has netted six goals in his last eight international outings.
Club Comparison
West Brom: Can look rudderless at times but consistency in selection and team spirit is key. Offer pace and trickery down the flanks with an unfancied forward capable of causing defenders a few headaches.
Any Other Business
Ridiculed by Arsenal fans, Bendtner appears to be a man reborn when pulling on the national jersey. If the Danes are going to cause an upset in the ‘Group of Death’, expect Bendtner to play a starring role alongside Ajax starlet Christian Eriksen. Denmark hold the Indian sign over Portugal having finished above them in qualifying for Euro 2012 as well as World Cup 2010 qualifying.
Best bet
Despite finding themselves in FIFA’s top 10 rankings, the Danes will be the first to admit they’re amongst some serious big players this summer. With qualification looking unlikely against three European powerhouses, you could have a nibble on BetVictor’s 11/10 that Denmark pick up less than two points from Group B.
