IT’S final night at the Ally Pally. Will it be Adrian Lewis or Gary Anderson who triumphs? Wayne Dews (@dewsy_21) gives us his thoughts.
Adrian Lewis v Gary Anderson | Sunday 20:15 | Sky Sports 1
The Semi-final action didn’t disappoint on Saturday evening, and without doubt, the tournaments’ two most consistent players in Scotland’s Gary Anderson and Adrian Lewis of England will take the stage at the Alexandra Palace on Sunday to battle it out for the £300,000 top prize – but more importantly, the coronation of becoming PDC World Darts Champion of 2016.
After Anderson’s 6-0 whitewash of Dutchman, Jelle Klassen on Saturday, it will come as no surprise that the current holder of the Sid Waddell Trophy is the favourite to retain it. Marathon Bet are offering the best price of 7/15 on the second seed to repeat the feat of 2015, while the top value on Lewis can also be taken with Marathon at 79/40.
From a betting perspective, I’ve studied all of the betting markets for most of the morning and into this afternoon. It is now getting to the time where it is almost too late to tip something up for our readers, but the one bet that I’ve returned back to on several occasions is in the Total Sets betting market.
Sky Bet are offering 4/6 on over 10.5 sets in the match, which is very tempting in itself. I’m more prepared to risk the contest reaching at least twelve sets – which would equate to a 7-5 win for either player, and the main selection for this evening is with Bet Victor, who offer 11/8 on over 11.5 sets being played.
Let’s not forget how impressive Lewis was to lead Raymond van Barneveld 5-0 in the semi-finals before – admittedly – a few lapses in concentration let the Dutch master back in for three consecutive sets before Lewis claimed victory, 6-3.
I’m not suggesting that Lewis will win – I’m actually sitting on the fence for that one – but I have a strong opinion that the contest will not be one-sided, and whoever lifts aloft the impressive trophy later is likely to have had to fight very hard in doing so.
