SPURS look to bounce back from Matchday 1 defeat on Tuesday when they take on CSKA Moscow. Chris Graham (@chrisgraham79) runs the rule over the game.
CSKA Moscow v Tottenham | Tuesday 19:45 | BT Sport Europe
It was a disappointing return to the Champions League for Spurs two weeks ago when they lost 2-1 to Monaco at Wembley. Now the pressure is on as they take the trip to Moscow to face CSKA.
CSKA managed a fine draw in Germany in the previous matchday against Bayer Leverkusen and come into this fixture lying second in the Russian league.
Leonid Slutsky’s side remain unbeaten in the league after eight matches and have the likes of Roman Eremenko and Lacina Traore in decent form coming into this match.
CSKA have much more experience than Spurs in this competition but struggled to gain headway last year when they finished bottom of a section featuring Wolfsburg, PSV and Manchester United.
While they suffered home defeat to an impressive Wolfsburg side they did get the better of PSV and draw with Manchester United in Russia. Tuesday’s task will be a stiff one for Tottenham.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side lie second in the Premier League but looked uneasy in the surrounds of Wembley two weeks ago. They also have to manage without the services of Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Moussa Sissoko and Danny Rose.
Spurs look short in the betting to me at 6/4 and it’s a confident CSKA side that appeals more at 11/5. My wariness with punting them is the fact that Spurs need to show some ambition here after their Matchday 1 defeat and Both Teams To Score stands out at 10/11 with Betfair.
I’ll back that up with a small interest in the 1-1 scoreline at 6/1 with BetVictor. It’s probably a result that will suit both these sides after their opening matches.
