Correct Score: Percentages point to goals on Wearside

CORRECT SCORE specialist Daniel McCulloch (@danmcc84) delivers his best bets from Tuesday’s Premier League card.

Sunderland v Tottenham | Tuesday 19:45

I read a stat earlier that stated that Spurs have conceded in nine of their 11 away games. This both interested and surprised me as I was all aboard the Spurs to win ‘to nil’ train before reading this.

I delved a little deeper, however, and noted that Spurs have let in precisely one goal in seven of nine games and only conceded on two or more occasions twice this season – at Chelsea and Manchester City.

Suddenly allowing an average of just one goal per-game on your travels does not look so bad and indeed this total is only bettered by league leaders Chelsea.

Sunderland, despite their overall struggles, have indeed found the net in nine of their 11 matches overall. They have scored precisely once in five of these matches so I would not put anyone off backing Both Teams To Score or Sunderland to score exactly one goal.

This, however, is a correct score column and given the respective positions of the two sides and the reasons outlined above, I do think a 2-1 victory for the away side is the most likely score. That is available at 9/1 with Bet365.

Initially, I wanted to split stakes between this and a 3-1 victory for Spurs but my eyes were drawn to the 10/1 available with BetStars on a 1-1 draw.

That is a big price, especially considering the frequency in which Tottenham games finish this way. It’s occurred on three occasions this season so have a saver on this.

I would suggest putting a little more on the former scoreline to ensure that both bets net you a significant profit.

Swansea v Southampton | Tuesday 19:45

Regular readers will note that this is a favoured bet of this column – Gylfi Sigurdsson to score first and Swansea to win.

Due to a variety of reasons – the woodwork and Swansea’s general incompetence – it is yet to yield a profit this term but at 35/1 I think BetVictor are giving us a reason to go in again.

The Saints have failed to score in six of their 11 away games, which gives me confidence that this price is on the large side.

Best Bets

Sunderland v Tottenham – 1-1 draw (10/1 BetStars)

Sunderland v Tottenham – Tottenham to win 2-1 (9/1 Bet365)

Swansea v Southampton – Gylfi Sigurdsson to score first and Swansea to win 1-0 (35/1 BetVictor)
