I can’t be the only person wondering why this game is being played at 6pm on a Sunday evening and I certainly won’t be the only one doubting that it’ll be a jubilant journey back to South Yorkshire for the Sheffield Wednesday fans.
Still, I don’t think the Owls will disgrace themselves. New manager Steve Bruce will take over in next week and players will be eager to impress him, even if he is currently in the Caribbean.
Over the balance of the two legs of their League Cup semi-final, Chelsea deserved to beat Spurs but they’ve been far from convincing over the last couple of months. The Blues have scored just 10 goals in their last 10 matches in all competitions and have lost at home to Leicester and been held by Southampton in that period.
I believe that ultimately they will have too much for Wednesday but expect a stubborn display from the visitors who have conceded just five goals in eight matches since ex-manager Jos Luhukay left the club.
All things considered I believe that Chelsea to win and Under 3.5 Goals is the way to go. That’s available at 5/4 with Boylesports and would have seen you in the winners enclosure after 10 of their 14 league victories this term.
Additionally, I like Olivier Giroud at 5/1 in the First Goalscorer market, also with Boylesports. The Frenchman has seldom started in the league this term but has four goals in five Europa league ties, including netting first in two of them.
Having played in Thursday night and with a Premier League fixture in midweek, I think the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro will be rested here, which makes the striker excellent value.
The 2-0 is the most likely scoreline in my view so if you can get 6/1 or greater then have a look at that as well.
