Champions League Tips | 1st October 2014

AFTER a successful previous evening in the Champions League, Chris Graham (@chrisgraham79) is back for more looking at tonight’s games.

Arsenal v Galatasaray | Wednesday 19:45 | Sky Sports 1

After a heartbreaking weekend, last night was very sweet with BATE Borisov delivering at 4/1. I also managed to pick a Football League treble on online TV channel Tip TV. But anyway, back to the grind tonight.

Arsenal at home to a Tier 2 European club side in the Champions League group stages, they don’t usually mess this kind of thing up. Despite their injuries, I think Arsene Wenger’s side should come through here comfortably. Gala failed to beat Anderlecht at home on Matchday 1 and Cesare Prandelli hasn’t hit the ground running since he took charge of the Turks.

It’s also worth recalling they lost to FC Copenhagen away in last year’s group stages and face a tough test here against a side who’ve got out the groups on every occasion in the last 14 seasons. Remember, Arsenal lost their opener against Dortmund 15 days ago, so defeat here is unthinkable.

The bet that appeals the most is the 19/20 from Bet365 for Arsenal -1 on the Asian Handicap. This means a one goal win for Arsenal will see your stake returned, while a bigger win pays out in full.

Basel v Liverpool | Wednesday 19:45 | Sky Sports 5

Tough game for Liverpool this. Most people expected them to cruise past Ludogorets two weeks ago, but instead they needed a last minute penalty to edge past the competition outsiders. If that’s a pattern of things to come, well they’re in trouble.

Two wins from their opening seven domestic fixtures indicates a hangover. As I’ve mentioned in a previous WLB post, relegated teams are having a torrid season so far and maybe we can bracket Liverpool in the same way as they also suffered huge disappointment at the tail end of last season. Oh and don’t forget Leyton Orient as well…

Anyway, I’m digressing. Basel may have been crushed 5-1 by Real Madrid two weeks ago but there’s no shame in that let’s be honest. The Swiss side beat Chelsea home and away last season in this competition and are capable of frustrating Liverpool tonight.

It’s the 5/2 draw option from BetVictor that I’ll be getting involved with.

Best Bets

Arsenal v Galatasaray – Arsenal -1 Asian Handicap (19/20 BetVictor)

Basle v Liverpool – Draw (5/2 BetVictor)
