BUNDESLIGA fanatic Jonny O’Sullivan (@libero_the) has taken a deep dive into matchday 10 from Germany, picking out his best bets.
Matchday 10 will kick-off this weekend and it is the time of the season where nervous managers and optimistic fans may begin to look at the league table to judge how their club’s season is likely to unfold.
The Bundesliga has so far produced arguably the best drama in Europe this season. Borussia Monchengladbach remain the best watch in the league whilst Dortmund and Leipzig fail to live up to their pre-season expectations as they allow a stuttering Bayern Munich to remain the favourites to lift the title.
Wolfsburg are boring the life out of their opponents and somehow remain unbeaten as they have drawn five and won four, only conceding five goals. Leverkusen can look at Wolfsburg’s defence with a lot of envy as they continue to defend horrifically without showing any signs that they are up for rectifying their errors.
Schalke and Freiburg are defying all expectations and could easily continue their impressive starts to the season with winnable away trips to Werder Bremen and Augsburg, respectively.
Bayer Leverkusen v Borussia Monchengladbach | Saturday 2nd November 2019, 14:30
Leverkusen are just horrific at the back. Peter Bosz’s sides play attractive football and there is no denying that but their defensive shape is a mess. Last week they allowed Milot Rashica acres of space to punish them, continuing a worrying trend of Bayer’s backline boys being absolutely nowhere to be seen when it matters most.
If Leverkusen continue in this way against a Gladbach side who have a roster of players with raw pace and in superlative form, there’ll be trouble. Marcus Thuram is proving to be one of the signings of the summer and it seems inevitable that he will punish a Leverkusen side with no regards for the ugly side of the game.
Without a clean sheet in the whole of October, Leverkusen are facing a side who only Dortmund and Bayern have beaten their goals tally of 19. Gladbach are truly a joy to watch and have beaten sides with similar quality to Leverkusen so far this season. Their 1-0 defeat to BVB was tough on them and the performance away at Leipzig seems a million years ago.
Gladbach are an extremely healthy price to win away at Leverkusen (21/10 Bet365) and with the pace their forward players possess on the counter-attack, along with the space their opponents should allow them, will result in a potential comfortably victory for the league leaders.
Eintracht Frankfurt v Bayern Munich | Saturday 2nd November 2019, 14:30
Robert Lewandowski is the best striker in the world right now. It could even be argued that he deserves an outside shot at the Ballon d’Or. He is currently playing for a team who do not actually play good football, nor do they create the bucket load of chances as they did under Pep or Heynckes, for example.
The Polish hitman is also playing with lesser players right now. Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry are excellent players, for sure, but they are nowhere near the levels of a prime Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. This makes Lewandowski’s 13 goals in nine games this season even more impressive.
This tally is more than double Timo Werner’s six goals, who is the second-highest scorer in the league. Not only has he achieved wonders this season, but he has eclipsed every single player in Europe for goals in 2019, scoring more than the likes of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
Therefore, Eintracht Frankfurt should feel no shame in being terrified of the Polish skipper. Bayern played fairly well in their last game against Union Berlin but did return to their vulnerable ways towards the end of the match. Bayern should take confidence in their performance and if they play even semi-close to their best, then there is no doubt who will be on the scoresheet.
At a tiny 1/3 to get on the scoresheet, the value in the market is to take a risk that Lewandowski will strike at least a double on Saturday with BetVictor going 2/1.
