Since being crowned champions, Liverpool seem to not be quite at the races. They were roundly trounced by the team they took the title from, Manchester City, and followed that up with a laboured win over a poor Aston Villa. It’s understandable though, they’ve done the hard bit now and that motivation may have dropped off a tad.

Jurgen Klopp was visibly angered by his sides two underwhelming displays and he will have the 100-point mark in his sights. It may be easier said than done though against a decent enough Brighton side.

The Seagulls are probably safe now after an impressive seven point return after the break which has put them nine points clear of the drop. That may mean Graham Potter gives greater license for his side to be a bit more expansive.

There was a lot of pundits saying the sacking of Chris Hughton was a disgrace but I thought it was perfectly warranted for a club wanting to move forward. Their data has dramatically improved under Potter and the possession-based style is more pleasing on the eye than the defensive nature under Hughton.

Brighton have already amassed more points than they did last season too and to make such drastic changes to style of play in such a short period of time, Potter deserves great credit.

Many will be looking at the 4/7 on the champions and thinking it’s a good price, after all Manchester United went off a bit shorter the other week in this fixture. However, the Reds have failed to win in their last three on the road.

As far as the betting goes, I’ll leave the outright markets and plump for the 10/11 (Bet365) on Both Teams To Score. According to xG Brighton should’ve scored four more goals than they have this season at the Amex. On the flip side, Liverpool should’ve conceded seven more than they have done when on the road. I’d expect that to revert to the mean sooner rather than later.

With the pressure slightly off the hosts paired with the shaky looking nature of the visitors defence I think Brighton will notch here, I do however expect Liverpool to be fired up after a rocket from Klopp. BTTS looks the best way in for a game that’s a tricky one to call.
