CARD man Gavin Murphy (@GamePlanGavin) has moved on to the Copa America and earmarks a betting opportunity in the opening match.
USA v Colombia | Saturday 02:30 | Premier Sports
The 100th Copa America kicks off in the early hours of Saturday morning as hosts USA meet Colombia. Ten teams from Conmebol (South America conference) and six from Concacaf (Caribbean, Central and North America) get it on in a feast of football.
Of course, I have evaluated the referees and the opening game promises to be a good one with Mexican whisteblower Roberto Garcia in charge. He averages 5.4 cards per game this season across all competitions.
He operated in Copa America in 2015 and gave 18 yellows in his three games at an average of six per match. In career games officiating USA he typically gives them 2.8 cards. He averages 3.5 to Colombia so 6.3 total match cards might be expected.
I was therefore surprised to see Bet365 offering 5/6 on over 3.5 cards. Sadly, that didn’t last long and they’ve since moved the line up to over 4.5. However, our friends at 888 are also offering 3.5 cards currently. That’s too good to turn down with a Mexican in charge.
The two most recent head to head meetings had five and four cards in them and I’ll be backing over 3.5 cards at 17/25 with 888.
