OUR bookings man Gavin Murphy (@GamePlanGavin) is off to Spain for his latest batch of bookings bets.

Levante v Malaga | Wednesday 15:00 | Sky Interactive

Rock bottom Levante host rapidly improving Malaga in what is probably a must-win game for the Valencia-based hosts. A meagre 11 points so far suggests they must win games like this against fellow strugglers.

Bet365 have moved their initial quote of 6.5 up to 7.5 cards. The man with the whistle in this battle is Jesus Gil Manzano. He gives 73% of his cards in the second half of matches. Based on his overall mark of 6.63 cards-per-game that implies a very high 4.84 cards in the second half.

I think he will try to keep things tight in the first half. Levante are a very ill disciplined outfit averaging 3.44 cards-per-game. They are now Spain’s second dirtiest team.

A very high 78% of their cards come in the second half of matches. Malaga average 2.5 cards-per-game and are middle of the road in terms of discipline.

With the pressure beginning to mount and compelling stats from the referee, I’m getting involved with Over 3 Second-Half Cards at 3/4 with William Hill.

Sevilla v Espanyol | Wednesday 17:15 | Sky Interactive

There is an end of year treat for cards punters as Spanish action returns after a shortened winter break. All of my favourite referees are in action for this midweek round of fixtures and it has been difficult to be selective.

Ignacio Villanueva (aka Senor Moonpig) is up first as he takes charge of Espanyol’s visit to Sevilla. Moonpig does not mess about as demonstrated by sending off two Rayo Vallecano players against Real Madrid in his previous run out.

This term he averages 7.11 cards-per-game. Interestingly, he has given 35/58 cards to the away team. That averages 4.27-per-game.

Espanyol are Spain’s dirtiest team averaging 3.5 cards-per-game. 55% of those were collected in away games.

In the previous meeting between these two teams 13 cards were given in a fiesty affair. Espanyol had four of those.

In fact, in the past four encounters at the Roman Sanchez Pizjuan stadium in Seville, the visitors from Barcelona collected 4-5-1 and five cards. A 75% success rate.

With a fabulous card happy referee in charge, who tends to give more cards to away teams, I’m backing Spain’s dirtiest team Espanyol to collect Over 3 Cards at 13/20 with William Hill.

Getafe v Deportivo La Coruna | Wednesday 19:30 | Sky Interactive

Let’s face it, sixth-placed Deportivo’s visit to Madrid to battle 15th-placed Getafe might not set the pulse racing. However, statistically it looks a match to get involved with.

The past three encounters in Madrid read 4-14-9, an average of nine cards-per-game. The quote this week is 5.5 cards.

Getafe are always a dirty team. This season they average 3.31 cards-per-game. Deportivo typically collect 2.5 per-game. That implies 5.81 could be expected.

The whisteblower in this tussle is Udian Mallenco. He is an experienced official who still averages 6.13 cards-per-game.

Both teams will be targeting maximum points from a winnable fixture. An evening encounter under the lights bodes well and I’m backing Over 55 Booking Points with William Hill at 19/20.
