Bookings: Passions to run high when Spurs tackle Arsenal

Yellow card

CARD king Gavin Murphy (@GamePlanGavin) is back to attack the North London derby on Sunday.

Tottenham v Arsenal | Sunday 16:00 | Sky Sports

The 184th North London derby takes place on Sunday as Tottenham host Arsenal at White Hart Lane for the last time.

Arsenal hold the upper hand historically with 78 wins compared to 55 victories for Spurs. Recent meetings have been very close with four draws in the last six head-to-head in all competitions.

This season Spurs can finally finish what they should have done last term and finish above their neighbours. They have an outside chance of the title still depending on Chelsea’s result earlier in the day at Goodison Park.

The Gunners have an slim opportunity of a top-four place and with it another go at the Champions League, so there’s plenty still to play for come Sunday afternoon.

Man in the middle

Michael Oliver gets the whistle for this game. He averages 3.36 cards per-game so is a conservative choice by the FA.

However, he has covered this fixture twice in recent seasons showing seven and nine cards respectively. That includes sending off Francis Cocquelin in a 2-2 draw at the Lane last term.

There are plenty of likely card collectors on both sides such as Vincent Wanyama, Granit Xhaka, Eric Dier, Alexis Sanchez and Shkodran Mustafi.

Rather than picking individual players I’m keeping it simple.

The betting angle

The past six meetings between these two teams have seen an average of 5.30 cards per-game. Arsenal have collected 17 cards compared to Tottenham’s 15.

It’s hard to imagine anything less than a hostile, frantic and passionate occasion. Head-to-head contests between the ‘big’ teams this season have largely been poor for cards but I feel this will be an exception.

I’m backing 50 or more Bookings Points at 8/11 with SkyBet.

If you’re new to Bookings Points, a yellow card earns 10 points and a red card earns 25 points. If a player receives 2 yellow cards and is consequently shown a red card, he receives a total of 35 Bookings Points.
