Bookings: Confetti’s trend for cautioning away sides in Spain

Yellow card

CARD king Gavin Murphy (@GamePlanGavin) has spotted some excellent bookings value in Spain on Saturday night.

Sevilla v Eibar | Saturday 19:45 | Sky Sports 5

On what looks a trappy weekend for card punters I am once again putting my faith in Alfonso Izquierdo – AKA Senor Confetti – to deliver the goods.

Izquierdo takes charge of Eibar’s visit to the Roman Sanchez Pizjuan to take on high-flying Sevilla on Saturday night. The hosts of course sit in third and must surely target three points if they are to prolong their title aspirations.

Little Eibar are in seventh but are within touching distance of Villarreal, Real Sociedad and the last Europa League berths.

The Basque outfit will be buoyed by their thumping of Granada last time out and will travel to Andalusia with confidence.

Eibar’s history of cards

Perhaps they are still smarting over the earlier meeting of these two teams in September when Confetti sent off two of their players (Yoel Rodriguez and Dani Garcia) in a 1-1 draw.

Indeed Eibar have had at least one red card in each of the last two meetings.

This season Eibar average 2.59 cards per-game but this increases to 3.3 cards per-away-game.

Confetti cautions the away side

Senor Confetti averages 6.89 cards per-game in 2016/17. What is striking though, is his record of carding away teams.

In his past seven games the visitors have collected total cards from him of 2-5-5-6-4-5-6 at an average of 4.71 per-game.

He has only covered Eibar once on the road that I can see. That was a game at Rayo Vallecano in March 2016 and he showed the minnows four cards including sending off Josip Radosevic late on.

Focus on the visitors

At what is always an intimidating venue for referees and the opposition, I think Eibar might be in line for some more Confetti punishment, especially if he continues his trend of carding away teams heavily.

An Eibar red card (18/5 888) is not out of the question here given the recent history of this fixture and when Confetti officiates them.

Instead I’m going to recommend backing Over 30 Bookings Points for Eibar at evens with Paddy Power. Provided they don’t capitulate, it’s hard to see Eibar not getting at least three yellow cards so this should go close.
