WE’VE lined up our best exchange lays of the weekend. You’ll find them all at Matchbook.
Swansea v Newcastle | Saturday 15.00
Swansea were the first side in almost a year to strike twice at Stamford Bridge last weekend in a 2-2 draw against defending champions Chelsea. Gary Monk’s men rightly earned plenty of praise for that opening day result but the Swans don’t represent great value when they return to Wales this weekend.
Take out results against last season’s relegated sides and the hosts W6-D5-L5 of their 15 fixtures when welcoming Premier League opposition. That’s a win rate of just 37.5% but the Swans are still rated odds-on favourites for Newcastle’s visit to the Liberty Stadium this weekend.
The Toon were given a good pat on the back for their endeavours when holding Southampton to a 2-2 draw in week one and you just get the impression that the tide might be starting to turn at St James’ Park.
Steve McClaren’s appointment has certainly thawed the atmosphere on Tyneside and although the Magpies hold a rotten road record in recent Premier League times, they’re armed, dangerous and capable of getting at least a point on Saturday. Swansea don’t deserve their odds-on quotes so stick them in the lay book at 1.96 (Matchbook) and bank on Newcastle avoiding defeat.
Derby v Charlton | Saturday 15.00
Pre-season Championship favourites Derby have gotten off to a less than spectacular start under the stewardship of Paul Clement. Last weekend the Rams loss starlet Will Hughes as the escaped with a point from Bolton having attempted just one shot-on-target against a side expected to struggle.
Derby also saw their woodwork rattled on three separate occasions by the Trotters in their opener before being dumped out of the Capital One Cup by League Two Portsmouth on Wednesday night. Clement’s already fielding accusations that he doesn’t know his best team, tactics or formation and that makes them vulnerable this weekend.
Charlton overcame early pressure to comfortably beat QPR in their curtain-raiser before sticking four goals past Dagenham & Redbridge in midweek. Guy Luzon’s troops have plenty of talent at their disposal, as evidenced in a W8-D3-L5 run at the backend of 2014/15.
The Addicks are well capable of upsetting the odds in Derby’s first run out at the iPro Stadium this season. It’s worth noting the Rams only managed 12/23 (52%) wins in front of their home fans last term and so the 1.64 (Matchbook) on the hosts just has to be one of the best lays this weekend.
St Etienne v Bordeaux | Saturday 16.00
Both St Etienne and Bordeaux made surprise losing starts to their Ligue 1 seasons and there’s a crucial piece of team news that could work against the hosts when the two teams lock horns on Saturday afternoon.
Les Verts’ captain Loic Perrin is missing and while St Etienne have lost just nine of the 61 matches they’ve played since 2013/14 with their skipper in the side, they’ve been beaten in exactly half of the 16 matches he’s missed – conceding 67% more goals-per-game.
When Perrin’s not about, the Saints struggle, meaning we must oppose them again this weekend. They’re available to lay at 2.04 with Matchbook.
