THE group-stage of the Asian Cup is approaching the business end. Mark O’Haire (@MarkOHaire) hunts the value as Group A comes to a close.
Australia v South Korea | 09.00
Saturday Hosts Australia take on South Korea in a battle to see who’ll be crowned top of Group A on Saturday and the even-money offer from BetVictor on the Socceroos looks the smartest play. Ange Postecoglou’s side have impressed under the weight of expectation and been a joy to watch.
The Roos were able to rest their leading lights for the final 35 minutes of their last outing when cruising against Oman. And with the goals flowing, home support behind and a Korean side that’s look distinctly average in opposition, I’m happy to put faith in Australia as they bid to keep their 100% record alive and secure top spot.
Yes, Korea were missing six key players when stumbling past Kuwait but they failed to fire against Oman and looked decidedly dodgy defensively. There’s been a lack of energy across the park and it’s hard to find answers for their meek displays.
With qualification assured for both sides, there’s surely more motivation for the Roos to get the three points in front of their home fans? I’d like to think so. Australia are a bet at evens but should the price contract at all, leave it alone.
Oman v Kuwait | 09.00 Saturday
With both sides playing for pride, I’m happy to give this match a big swerve.
Kuwait have defied their pre-tournament predictions of pain and misery by having a decent go at the two Asian giants in spells but it’s too difficult to form an opinion when an abundance of changes could be made by either camp. No bet.
