THREE winners in the past four weeks for Gavin Horsfall (@GHorsfall) and his Anytime Notebook. This week he’s outlined three selections in the Football League with the treble worth over 100/1!
Walsall host Colchester this weekend with the visitors starting life without manager Joe Dunne following his dismissal last week. I’m a big fan of Dunne’s work and perhaps his side were dealt a difficult opening fixture list, facing an array of the leading League One challengers. But they still scored in four of their five league defeats though which is an interesting angle.
George Moncur is a player that needs flagging up from the ColU side. The young central midfield player on-loan from West Ham has been having a number of shots on goal and has already opened his account for the season with a couple of goals. And the trip to Walsall looks right up his street and he goes off at a decent price as well at 15/2.
Next up is Peterborough against Port Vale. A disappointing cup exit in midweek for Posh against Leyton Orient in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy but the good news is, they’re still scoring goals and they host a Vale side that yet to keep a clean sheet this season and were on the wrong end of leaking 73 last year!
There’s bags of options in the Peterborough attack following the signing of Luke James earlier this week. He came on and got a goal against Orient and they can also call upon Kyle Vassell and Conor Washington too. So three really good options for Darren Ferguson this week and it’ll be interesting to see which two of the three he goes with. I was actually impressed with Marcus Maddison when he came on; a tricky winger who grabbed a goal and he’s come from Gateshead were he actually scored 14 goals this calendar year. So at 12/5, he’s a nice option and alternative to that front three – especially when you’re left guessing who’ll start.
And last up in League Two is Morecambe against Cheltenham – two of the top three in the league – if you said this would be a top-of-the-table clash a month ago you wouldn’t have got many backers at any sort of odds.
Cheltenham are the interest. They followed up an excellent come-from-behind victory against Tranmere with two more decent wins against Hartlepool and Oxford in midweek and like Posh, there’s plenty of really good attacking options for Mark Yates. Terry Gornell and Byron Harrison have led the line for the most part but Yates has brought in John Marquis and also a young lad named Koby Arthur from Birmingham who’s already scored four in six appearances – five of which were as a substitute!
Arthur started and scored in midweek against Oxford and although is seen primarily as a wide player but he’s been employed in a central position. We’re going to take a bit of a gamble that he might start the game and even if he didn’t, 7/2 is a nice price to have for him to come off the bench and grab a goal too.
