Albion Rovers v Berwick | Tuesday 19:45
This is a huge 4th Round replay for both these sides, as the winner faces a trip to non-league Spartans in February and a golden chance to make the Quarter-Finals.
Albion of course, had their moment in the sun last season when they came so close to knocking out Rangers and reaching the semi-finals. You’d like to think those endeavours will stand them in good shape for future Cup campaigns.
The first match between these sides finished 1-1 the weekend before last, and it looked a tight affair at Sheilfield Park. Now with the replay at Coatbridge, I sense a decent advantage for Albion.
To be honest, I was very surprised at their odds when I started to analyse this game. I had Rovers a shade of odds on, so to see quotes of 23/20 with BetVictor kicking around were very pleasing.
Darren Young’s side have not only Cup pedigree, but also a superb home record this season. They sit top of the League 2 Home Table after six wins from their eight league matches. Elgin were squashed 3-0 on Saturday (I meant to back them -1 but changed my mind last minute – doh!), last month they saw off league leaders Arbroath 2-1 at Cliftonhill and Tuesday’s opponents Berwick were also beaten there in October.
Overall, Albion have been in sparkling form with just one defeat in 11 games. That came down in Annan last week, when the side endured a long midweek trip south.
Opponents Berwick have been fairly inconsistent in recent weeks. Five wins, five draws and five defeats in their last 15 games says it all. And you won’t be surprised to hear they’re mid-table in League Two, 11 points behind Albion.
The Wee Rangers have struggled away from home though. Four defeats in their last five road trips are just what Albion backers like me want to hear.
So, with all that in mind, I just have to back Albion on Tuesday at 23/20 with BetVictor. Pedigree, good form, superb home record and odds against. Yes please!
