THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE returns on Tuesday night as Manchester United host Young Boys at Old Trafford. Ross Casey (@Rosscasey24) shares his betting thoughts.
Manchester United v Young Boys | Tuesday 27th November 2018, 20:00 | BT Sport
Manchester United turned their entire Champions League campaign around in Turin last time out. They were a goal down with just five minutes remaining but somehow managed to score twice late on to secure an unlikely win.
That victory now puts the Red Devils in the driving seat to reach the knockout stages, but things are still not swell at the club, as proved by their dour 0-0 draw at home against Crystal Palace last time out.
However, they are playing Young Boys here and have been made very much the favourites with the bookies to get the job done with odds of just 2/7. That is of course horrendously short and offers no value at all, so we will search elsewhere for our betting angle.
Young Boys are a big price here at 12/1 to win with a multitude of bookies, which is hardly surprising as Man Utd won the reverse fixture 3-0 back in September and the Swiss side have just one point after four games.
Manchester United
A win here and a victory for Juventus over Valencia will guarantee qualification for Man Utd with a game to spare. It all sounds routine, but Jose Mourinho’s men have struggled to breakdown sides that come to Old Trafford and defend, which is what Young Boys will surely do.
Almost unbelievably, Man Utd have won just three of their nine home games this season, something Mourinho addressed in his pre-match press conference.
“Probably you thought Jose told them to start slow, to play nice and easy and see what happens or to be losing. It is exactly the opposite. I want them to start strong and go for it almost immediately.”
With this in mind, you can get the Red Devils to be leading after 30 minutes at 27/20. This bet would have landed in both of Young Boys’ away games at Juventus and Valencia earlier in the competition.
Young Boys
Young Boys are winless in all three of their previous away games against English sides and have lost three of their four matches – each of which they have conceded three goals in. But the Swiss champions have netted in each of their last nine matches – scoring a total of 18 goals.
If you fancy Both Teams To Score on Tuesday night you can grab a best price of 11/10. With Man Utd keeping just one clean sheet in their last eight games, that may well represent excellent value.
The betting angle
I like the odds of Man Utd to win here, but with Both Teams To Score.
Young Boys will be fully aware of the somewhat toxic atmosphere at Old Trafford of late and against a defence that will be missing Victor Lindelof, they can continue their hot streak in front of goal, whilst United can find a way to go on to gain victory.
This is available at a good looking price of 41/20 with 888 and is my preferred Champions League betting selection.
