Dunfermline v Dumbarton | Saturday 15:00
It’s not often that a team that have failed to win any of their last five fixtures look like good value to win their next match – especially at odds-on.
That’s exactly the situation surrounding Dunfermline, though, ahead of Saturday’s game against Dumbarton at East End Park.
Allan Johnston’s side are without a win in five, but the Pars could be forgiven for that; those games have been against Premiership opposition, Hamilton – twice – as well as Championship sides Falkirk, Dundee United and Hibernian.
Strong performances against tough opposition
The fact that the Pars lost just one of those matches inside 90 minutes – against the Bairns – is to their credit.
And Johnston’s side deserve credit, too, for a fine battling performance against the Hibees when they came from 2-0 down to force a 2-2 draw at Easter Road last weekend; in fact, Dunfermline were unlucky not to win that one.
The Pars have lost just one of their last 15 games inside 90 minutes in all competitions and Dumbarton’s patchy record on the road may mean another struggle for the Sons come Saturday afternoon.
Sons away struggles
Stephen Aitken’s side have been held in each of their last three fixtures – a hat-trick of 2-2 draws – but three wins in 16 matches on their travels does not bode well for Dumbarton.
That sequence of results includes a dismal 0-0 draw against Bonnyrigg Rose in the Scottish Cup – a tie that the Sons lost in a replay against the junior outfit.
Dunfermline are unbeaten in six home games in all competitions and “Magic” Johnston’s men could be a solid selection at 10/11 (Betway) to make it a Magnificent Seven in style by seeing off the Sons on Saturday.
