OUR man in Rome Marco Di Cosmo (@scioltz) returns to WLB for the new season with his best bets for Sunday’s matches.
Genoa v Fiorentina | Sunday 14:00
Personally speaking, this is the most intriguing match from Serie A on Sunday as Paulo Sousa and his fashionable Fiorentina football meets Ivan Juric, whom, after an exciting run in Serie B with Crotone, took the job at Genoa with the explicit order of playing an entertaining and offensive brand of football.
This is pretty much what he has showed in his young career so far, and I am excited to see his team playing for this new Serie A season. Genoa’s first two matches in Serie A went according to this plan, as the Grifoni were trailing 1-0 both times, and both times they managed to overcome their deficit registering a stormy 3-1 win.
Fiorentina will be a more difficult task though but we can expect to see goals on the agenda for sure. I’ll be backing Over 2.5 Goals here.
Roma v Sampdoria | Sunday 14:00
AS Roma under Luciano Spalletti are another wonder team whom I expect great football from despite some rollercoaster performances under his watch.
This team remind me of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, with a natural facility to score against anyone but some appalling moments like the 0-3 against Porto at home, for example.
I rate Spalletti as one of the top Italian managers, his offensive minded football has been a boost for AS Roma since he took over in January, with the giallorossi finishing two points above Napoli.
Roma are unbeaten in 19 matches in Serie A, the longest streak running, but most of all, their matches registered more than two goals in 15 of those 19 matches. That’s almost an 80% ratio.
Sampdoria won’t be just resilient playing on the counter, as showed by their coach at Empoli last season so I think we’ll see goals and a lot of entertainment in the capital.
