A-League Tips | Brisbane Roar v Melbourne City | 27th December 2015

AFTER a brilliant Christmas Eve winner Will Dyer (@w2Dyer) is back with more bets from Australia.

Brisbane Roar v Melbourne City | Sunday 08:00 | BT Sport 1

Brisbane have won four of their five home games this season but none of those wins have come against sides in the top 5; the one game they failed to win at Suncorp Stadium was against Melbourne City who have won four in a row since the 1-1 draw between these sides back in late November.

That meeting was mostly dominated by Melbourne City in terms of chances and Roar’s equalising goal came from one of just three shots they had on target all game.

I’ve mentioned Aaron Mooy a couple of times and he really is the standout performer in the league at the minute. Brisbane have scored more than one goal in just one of their last seven outings and although their defence is looking strong I don’t think they’ve been tested recently.

Melbourne City are the league’s top scorers with 29 goals in just 11 games; nine more than any other team so I’m quite surprised to see them priced as the outsiders in the betting.

17 of those 29 City goals have come on the road and they’ve just one defeat in six on their travels. In fact they are unbeaten outside of Melbourne; their only ‘road’ defeat came against City rivals Melbourne Victory. Signs then that John van’t Schip’s side are mentally strong and well suited to playing in partisan atmospheres.

City did the treble over Roar last season and at the minute I think they are title contenders. I wrote in my pre-season preview that I wasn’t convinced they would make their squad strength and depth count but I’m happy to admit they are proving me wrong.

City have the league’s top scorer Bruno Fornaroli and the fashion in which he has settled in so quickly is almost unprecedented. It looks like his form will continue. Jamie MacLaren is doing well for Roar but their second top scorer Brandon Borrello is overrated for my liking.

Roar won’t go down without a fight but the value is all on the visitors and a punt at 0 on the Asian Handicap at 5/4 looks a really good way to go in what is Australia’s match of the week.
