ANYTIME GOALSCORER genius Gavin Horsfall (@GHorsfall) has showered us with big-priced winners this season. Here’s his Boxing Day offering..
Bradford v Burton | Saturday 15.00
Nigel Clough’s Burton look every inch Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s Burton over the first couple of weeks – in fact, 16 shots on-target and six goals in the previous two games suggests Clough may even have stepped up the attacking intent which makes them a more attractive proposition from a goalscorer punting point of view.
Stuart Beavon leads the line in a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 which calls on plenty of advanced players to contribute to the shot count so there should be plenty of value then. But where do we go for a selection?
Tom Naylor and Callum Butcher (11/1 Paddy Power) both come into the reckoning but it’s the latter that gets the nod. Butcher is probably best described as a utility player but has been deployed in an advanced midfield position by Clough in both the draw against Doncaster and win at Gillingham.
Butcher helped himself to two goals last weekend and looks a big price to continue his fine form here.
Swindon v Gillingham | Saturday 15.00
There’s every chance Gillingham were caught off guard by a new Burton manager when they lost 3-0 a fortnight ago. They put that result to bed with a 3-0 win of their own at Millwall last weekend meaning we can probably restore our faith in League’s Two’s most potent attack.
The Gills head to Swindon on Saturday for a game that usually has a few goals in it; there’s been a couple of 2-2 draws recently and Gills won 3-0 at the County Ground last year. Cody McDonald scored twice in that game and has a three in two record against Town but he has trouble seeing out the 90 minutes recently so I’ll stick with Bradley Dack (9/4 Ladbrokes), who has 11 goals already this year.
Doncaster v Scunthorpe | Saturday 15.00
Doncaster continued their good form last week, just failing to hang onto the three points at Burton but extending a run of just one defeat in nine.
Christmas is supposed to be a time of miracles so how about we sign off 2015 trying to get Cedric Evina (18/1 Stan James) over the line for the first time in five years?
You’ll have to trust me on this one but the Rovers wing-back HAS been getting opportunities over the last month as manager Darren Ferguson allows his full backs to get forward.
There should be plenty of space to attack Scunthorpe right-back Scott Wiseman who likes to get forward himself.
Crawley v Stevenage | Saturday 15.00
We didn’t quite get Tom Pett right last week but no reason to abandon Stevenage just yet who fully deserved their point at home to Accrington and have now gone six games unbeaten in the league.
They head to Crawley who’ve conceded 11 in their last four and have kept only one clean sheet since September. At the prices, I’d rather be with Chris Whelpdale (7/2 Paddy Power) here. The 28-year old has been excellent so far, seeing his hard work on the right-hand side rewarded with nine goals this season.
